On Thursday 13th October, along with 89 other CEO’s I camped out at the Notts County Football Club overnight to raise money for 5 homeless charities.
I chose to take part in this event thinking it would be a good learning experience but I also feel strongly about giving something back to those less fortunate than ourselves.
Luckily for us, the weather wasn’t too bad for the time of year, it could have been much worse. Of course, I was prepared for the elements with my sleeping bag and layers of clothes – something that isn’t always available for those out on the streets night after night. We didn’t have to suffer abuse from passers-by and it was after all only the one night.
Anyone can end up on the streets – every single homeless person will have their own story, some more tragic than others. But who deserves to live like that in this century? In my opinion, no-one should.
The experience itself was thought provoking – it wasn’t great lying on concrete in the open elements. I can only imagine how much worse that must be as the temperature drops, or in pouring rain, with not enough food or drink and no hot shower to warm up. The fear of suffering abuse from revellers or getting moved on by the police.
Thank you to everyone who has already donated – your money will make a huge difference.
It’s not too late if you wish to contribute:
